Greetings! While up in the church’s attic Pastor Debra came across this beautifully framed portrait of this distinguished gentleman. Any guesses who he is??

Well, let me introduce you to Joseph Mason Stone. He was a partner of the Davis & Furber Machine Company here in North Andover and in 1865 graciously donated $5,000 towards the building of our church. Mr. Stone was an inventor of many machines to process wool and cotton among other notable inventions. When Mr. Stone passed away this was written about him “he had a singular faculty for improving everything he touched and left the impression of his genius on the streets and public buildings on every town in which he lived”. How fortunate we are to have benefited from his kindness and generosity.
Jill, the Historian
Fun Fact: Did you know that $5,000 in 1865 is equivalent to about $94,000 today!
